Behind The Rules in Fighting COVID19
Wearing A Face Mask In Public
The very
reason why wearing a face mask is much needed is not just to protect ourselves
but to filter in the virus (if we are infected) and prevent its transmission.
The minimum requirement of the type of face mask to be used are multi-layered (two or more), breathable
and washable fabric that completely covers your nose and mouth. But, it is more
recommended to wear surgical mask or N-95 because it is already made to filter
minute organisms. It is also important to know that you shouldn't touch your
mask while you wear it as it might be
contaminated. In removing your mask, hold it on its ear strings and dispose or
put it somewhere safe.
Proper Sanitization At All Times
The Center for
Disease Control (CDC) recommends to practice proper hygiene. Always bring with
you a 60-90% alcohol or alcohol based gel as this concentration provides
elimination of certain bacteria and virus including SARSCOV2. If your hands are
soiled, wash your hands properly with soap and water while observing the proper
handwashing technique. This may be optional but it's important to know that you
need to clean your hands thoroughly especially your nails, sides of your
fingers, and back of your hand. In addition, please avoid touching your face
when your hands aren't clean! As this may transfer microbes to your face and
allow them to easily invade our body.
6ft Social Distancing
Studies have
shown that SARSCOV2 can travel within this distance after an infected person
sneezes or do something that can create respiratory droplets. So, CDC
recommends to at least keep yourself apart from others in public. This is also
a way to avoid direct physical contact from a person who might be infected as
they might have the virus on their skin surface.
Sneeze Under Your Shirt
It is now a
recommended etiquette to practice sneezing under your shirt as this will help
contain the virus to yourself. If you're uncomfortable doing it you can sneeze
while covering your mouth with your arms, but for me sneezing under your shirt
is safer. Using handkerchiefs when sneezing isn't really recommended as the
hanky might be a vehicle for transmission to other objects or surfaces. If
you're using tissues make sure to dispose it properly. Afterwards, don't forget
to do proper sanitation.
Take A Bath ASAP
When you
arrived at home, it is very important to keep the microbes that you harbor
from the outside to yourself. Wash your hands or put some alcohol before touching the
door knob. Stay away first from your family and immediately go to the bathroom
and shower. This is optional but put your clothes on a different laundry bin.
Wash your whole body thoroughly with soap and water including your hair. In
this way, we can prevent transmission of the virus by direct physical contact.
Stay At Home
This is
probably almost the best way to prevent SARSCOV2 infection because by staying
at home you're distancing yourself from possibly infected people. However, the
downside for this is when a family member or a household works or goes outside
to do the groceries. It is very important to remind them of the mentioned above
so that they will not become the vehicle for transmission. Staying at home isn't
100% guaranteed safe but it's almost somehow the safest to do.

Thank you for this reminder of the barrier measures to take to avoid becoming infected and to limit the spread of the virus. With the vaccination going well, it is easy to let our guard down and forget all these gestures that have been part of our daily life for over a year. I didn't know that it is recommended to sneeze under your shirt, but now that I am informed, I will do it. Thanks again, it's a great post.

Very informative and educational post! I jump in the shower first thing after coming in from work, shopping, etc. before I touch anything else. I also keep my work uniform separate from the rest of my laundry (just in case) x
ReplyDeleteLove this post! It is so important to remember what needs to be done in order to keep everyone as safe as possible!

Not many people are now following these simple guidelines thinking it's a thing of the past, and it's terrible! Thank you for the reminder, it was indeed (and still is!) very needed x
ReplyDeleteIt would be amazing to see people following these tips and make it easy for others to go outside and enjoy. But we need to be careful! Thank you so much!
ReplyDeleteInformative and much needed reminder as I feel like people are now acting as though the pandemic is over. Sharing this as a reminder to people to be cautious. I stay indoors as much as I can and strip as soon as I'm back in the house and straight to the shower!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing Xx
